Man sentenced to life for murder of friend

Manama : A Bahraini man who stabbed his friend to death in Muharraq last year was sentenced to life by the High Criminal Court yesterday.

The case, which occurred in March, 2016, involved three Bahraini youngsters. 

The 20-year-old killer reportedly stabbed his friend Abdulqader Al Kooheji to death in Halat Bumaher in Muharraq and fled the scene, before he disposed off the murder weapon in the sea.

According to the testimony of witnesses, an altercation over some personal matter led to the crime.  The victim died of stab injuries.

The defendant admitted in the interrogation that a quarrel occurred between him and the victim. 

He told the prosecution he used a knife  to stab the victim several times. 

“He also confessed to fleeing  the crime scene and disposing of the knife in the sea,” Deputy Attorney General Ibrahim Al Binjassim said in a statement yesterday, confirming that the Fifth High Criminal Court sentenced the man to life for murder and assault.

The official also confirmed that the coroner’s report stated that the victim’s death was caused by a lethal stab to the chest. 

He also mentioned that the killer stabbed one of the witnesses, who attempted to break up the fight.

DT News had earlier reported that the victim was identified as 21-year-old Al Kooheji and that he was taken by a friend to King Hamad University Hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds and was announced dead. His body was buried on the same day of the murder in Muharraq Graveyard.
