Nurana Island defeat Jedda Island 2-1
Manama : Nurana Island defeated Jedda Island 2-1 in the second round of Group C matches in the RJ Investments Holding Group Team Doubles Tennis Tournament 2017 at the Bahrain Tennis Club in Juffair, under the patronage and head of the group, Rashad Janahi.
In the opening rubber, Ali Alasfoor and Isa Al Sammak of Nurana defeated Salah Janahi and Mohammed Sharaf 9-1, then the second tied the match as Khalid Qayoom and Ahmed Dhaif edged out Mohammed Mosawi and Venkat Subramaniyam 9-7.
In the tie-break decider, Ali Alasfoor and Venkat Subramaniyam won through 8-6, 7-3 against Khalid Qayoom and Ahmed Dhaif.
The championship features 15 teams named after Bahrain’s islands split into three groups of five teams playing on a round-robin basis and comprising teams of four players.
Six matches from the three groups are played at 5.45pm and 7pm over five match-days until Monday and after the round-robin stage. Semi-finals are set for February 1 with the three group winners and the best second placed team qualifying with the Final set for Feb 4.
