Iran hand

Manama : The deadly attack came few hours after several Iranian and Iraqi clerics called upon Bahrainis to “step up their fight against the regime”.

The instructions of the so-called religious figures are reportedly aimed at provoking the public and preventing the authorities from presenting religious scholar Isa Qassim before the court here for illegal fundraising and money laundering related cases.

Iraqi Cleric Ayatollah Kadhim Al Ha’eri, who resides in Iran, Abdulla Al Daqqaq and others have instructed Bahrainis to “die before allowing the prosecution of Qassim”.

Qassim’s case was adjourned by the High Criminal Court earlier on January 5 until today, for the closing arguments to be submitted. However, the defendant, who got his citizenship revoked last June for harming national security, didn’t show up at any of the trials.

Ambushed

The off-duty police officer was ambushed while feeding his dogs at a farm in the village, located few kilometres to the southwest of the Capital. This information was confirmed by Foreign Affairs Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, who tweeted, “Our Martyr First Lieutenant Police Officer Hisham Al Hammadi was shot dead by terrorists today. He was feeding his dogs.”

“Bahrain will continue to fight foreign funded terrorists until they are defeated and our society is safe and secure,” the minister said, stressing the Kingdom’s keenness to fight terrorism.
