Programmes confirmed for Bahrain Sports Day

ManamaThe final programme for the first-ever Bahrain Sports Day has been confirmed as the whole of Bahrain is set to embrace a record set of activities open to all segments of the society on February 7.

It is being organised by the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) in compliance to the decision of the Presidents of National GCC Olympics Committee at their meeting held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to bring a national sport day to the Gulf region.

More than 10 ministries, four governorates, 28 sports federations, national and expatriate sports clubs in addition to the youth centres will deliver a multi-sporting event on a single day.

National sports federations will hold a set of programmes for this day-long event at the purpose-built Sport Village near the National Stadium in Riffa.

 

EVENTS:

1.Bahrain Cricket Association (Open to all ages from 3pm until 6pm.

2.Bahrain Football Association- first-of-a-kind penalty shoot-out Championship for above-45 veterans open for all sports clubs at the National Stadium’s outdoor grounds from 5pm until 8pm.

3.Bahrain Athletics Association - a busy day with a number of competitions for youngsters and adults, including kids talent programme, 1.7km marathon, pole vault, javelin throw, triple jump and medley relay and hurdles contests.

4.Bodybuilding and weightlifting - competitions for adults on the day and an open spartan race and horse riding event for kids all scheduled from 3.30pm to 6pm.

5.Bahrain Sport for All Association - entertainment programme from 4pm to 8pm.

6.Various Federations - martial arts, a 9-round chess festival, a pool sailing event, a gymnastics floor exercises and gravity activities for kids will all take place from 4pm until 6pm, in 3x3 Basketball from 9.am to 3.30pm.

7.Fencing - Contests from 9am to 6pm at Fencing Association in Umm Al Hassam.

8.Cycling -  30km and 100km races start from the Bahrain International Circuit from 9am until 2pm.

9.Special Needs - activities for people with special needs, including wheel chair basketball, football, athletics, weightlifting, boccia, shodan, sitting volleyball and table tennis at Bahrain Sports Federation for Disabilities.

10.Handball - Bahrain Handball Association in Um Al Hassam Sports Complex,U-12 festival featuring a variety of sports and entertainment from 9.30am until 3.30pm.

11.Bowling - competition will take place at three different venues (Funland, Ozone Hall, Adhari Park Hall) from 10am until 4pm.

12.Tennis -  tennis tournament and other activities at Bahrain Polytechnic University from 10am until 5pm.

13.Bahrain Billiards and Snooker Federation - event for government and private schools from 10am until 6pm.

14.Bahrain Motor Federation - activities from 2pm until 8pm including motocross, autocross, karting and motorbikes at the Bahrain International Circuit.
