Bahrain to host IMMAF World Championships

ManamaThe International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) officially granted Bahrain the right to host the fourth edition of the IMMAF World Championships of Amateur MMA which will be held in November this year.

The move will place Bahrain as the first Asian and Arab country to host this championship. 

The decision came during a meeting between Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Kerrith Brown, IMMAF President and Densign White, IMMAF CEO, on the sidelines of the World Championships of the Amateur MMA organised in Las Vegas in July 2015.

Shaikh Khalid, the First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Honourary President of Bahrain Mixed Martial Arts Association, Founder of Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Mixed Martial Arts Organization stressed the support of the leadership in implementing vital plans that support the infrastructure of this sector. 

In this regard, Shaikh Khalid also praised the efforts of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of Bahrain Olympic Committee in enhancing Bahraini sports. 

Official announcement of IMMAF granting Bahrain rights to host the World Championships of Amateur MMA will be held on Monday at the Sofitel Hotel during a Press Conference held in the presence of Shaikh Khalid. 

Kerrith Brown and Densign White are scheduled to attend and speak at the conference about the decision to choose the Kingdom of Bahrain to host this event.

Commenting, Shaikh Khalid stressed Bahrain is capable of hosting a successful event, citing the annual Formula One race since 2004.

Earlier, President of Bahrain Mixed Martial Arts Assocation, Khalid Abdulaziz Al Khayat and Director of the Shaikh Khalid’s Media Office, Omar Abdulaziz Bu Kamal held a preparatory meeting with Kerrith Brown, and Densign White on the sidelines of the second edition of the European Open Championships of Amateur Mixed Martial Arts hosted by the Czech capital Prague last November.
