Nasan Island triumph
Manama : Umm an Nasan Island came from a game down to defeat Naruna Island 2-1 in the first semi-final of the RJ Investments Holding Group Team Doubles Tennis Tournament 2017 at the Bahrain Tennis Club in Juffair, under the patronage and head of the group, Rashad Janahi.
In the first rubber, Ali Alasfoor and Isa Sammak defeated Aziz Janahi and Mohammed Ghulam 9-0 games to give Naruna the lead.
The second rubber saw Abdul Rahman Janahi and Mattar Yousuf equal the tie for Umm an Nasan when Mohammed Mosawi had to retire and playing partner Venkat Subramaniyam with the score at 5-0 games.
In the deciding rubber, A R Janahi and A Janahi came from a set down to beat Alasfoor and Subramaniyam 5-7, 7-4, 7-5 for Umm an Nasan’s place in the final.
In the second semi-final, Halat Nuaim Island bt Jedda Island 2-0, thanks to a first rubber win for Rico Cifra and Ahmed Jassas by 9-4 against Ahmed Dhaif and Mohammed Sharaf, then wrapped up the tie when Khalid Janahi and Karim Hajjar got the better of Khalid Qayoom and Salam Janahi 9-1.
The championship has featured 15 teams named after Bahrain’s islands split into three groups of five teams playing on a round-robin basis with the three group winners and best runner-up making up the semi-final line-up.
The final match between Umm an Nasan and Halat Nuaim is set for tomorrow starting at 6pm.
