ManamaHealth authorities have inspected a rodent infested bakery and issued warning against its owners after a video posted in social media showed rats running around where flour and other baking materials were kept.

Inspection teams from different departments of the ministry visited the bakery. The statement affirmed that the ministry closely follows such subjects shared on social networks. The inspection visit came as per the directives of Hospitals Assistant Undersecretary and Primary Care and Public Health Acting Assistant Undersecretary Dr. Waleed Al Manea and Public Health Director Dr. Mariam Al Hajeri.

Dr. Al Hajeri explained that the rodent control and inspection teams thoroughly examined the bakery and detected violations related to general cleanness, the used machinery and workers hygiene.

“Several uncovered sewerage holes were detected in the surrounding area. Rodents come out of these holes. Sewage water was also detected in a small alley near the bakery. The larvae of Culex mosquitoes are found to be reproducing in the alley. This matter is being followed up with Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry,” Dr. Al Hajeri said.

This is the second procedure taken by the ministry regarding restaurants’ hygiene this year. A restaurant owner in Galali was fined by the ministry last week after a video posted online showed that the workers at the restaurant were cutting meat on a floor carpet. An unhygienic scene that raised public demands for more supervision by the authorities on eateries in the country.

Dr. Al Hajeri added that the directorate will revisit the bakery to confirm that the violations were removed and rectified.
