Ministry asks to close down Ibn Al Hytham Islamic School's Manama campus

Manama: The Ibn Al Hytham Islamic School (IHIS) has been ordered to shut down its Manama Campus building by the Ministry of Education, in a circular issued on January 2.

The Ministry issued the order after it found that the dilapidated school buildings pose serious danger to around 450 children studying there. The order cited that it is not safe to house the children in the old school building.

Following the move, parents of the students requested the Education Ministry to allow the 180 LKG students  who will be moving to the HKG in March to continue studies in the new campus in Al Maqsha.

School Administrative Committee Chairman Shakil Ahmed Azmi said the school is on the look out for alternative arrangements and that they will be able to find a solution to the problem in three months.

“We at IHIS are determined to work for further growth of the school in future and bringing all the new technologies and teaching aids in order to create more space to accommodate admission seekers and make the teaching and learning experience interesting for both teachers and students. Despite very low fee and shortage of resources, the management is determined to provide healthy, spacious and peaceful campus for the students,” Shakil Ahmed Azmi said.

As of now the school has stopped giving admission to LKG classes due to infrastructure constraints  following the Ministry’s order and the concerned authorities are conducting necessary tests to assess the building’s overall strength.

Ibn-Al-Hytham Islamic School, a government-recognised expatriate institution in the Kingdom was established in 1989 in Manama  to serve specially the children who come from less-privileged back ground. The school has two campuses –one in Manama and the other in Al  Maqsha in  Seef area.

‘Students to be relocated in a year’

Ibn Al Hytham Islamic School Principal Dr Mohammad Tayyab has requested the Ministry one year to find  alternative arrangements to accommodate the students. The principal yesterday convened a meeting of the parents of LKG students at the Al Maqsha auditorium on this matter.

The parents will also meet the Director of the Private Education at the Ministry of Education today to discuss on allowing  the school to continue in the same campus in Manama for a year till a new facility is arranged.
