Bahrain to witness record set of sports activities tomorrow

Manama : The final programme for the first-ever Bahrain Sports Day is confirmed as the whole of Bahrain is set to embrace a record set of activities open to all segments of the society. National sports federations will hold a set of programmes for this day-long sports gathering at the purpose-built Sport Village near the National Stadium in Riffa.

Among federations involved is the Bahrain Cricket Association, which will have a busy cricket programme that is open to all ages from 3pm until 6pm. The Bahrain Football Association will have a first-of-its-kind penalty shoot-out championship for above-45 veterans open for all sports clubs at the National Stadium’s outdoor grounds from 5pm until 8pm.

Bahrain Athletics Association will also have a busy day with a number of competitions for youngsters and adults, including kids talent programme, 1.7km marathon, pole vault, javelin throw, triple jump and medley relay and hurdles contests. Bodybuilding and weightlifting competitions for adults are also scheduled on the day and an open spartan race and horse riding event for kids all scheduled from 3.30pm until 6pm.

The second set of activities by the sports federations will include martial arts performances, a 9-round chess festival, a pool sailing event, a gymnastics’ floor exercises and gravity activities for kids will all take place from 4pm until 6pm, in addition to an entertaining programme organized by Bahrain Sport for All Association from 4pm to 8pm, and a 3x3 basketball is set from 9.30pm to 3.30pm. Fencing contests have been scheduled from 9am up to 6pm at the Bahrain Fencing Association in Um Al Hasam, 30km and 100m and cycling races will start from the Bahrain International Circuit from 9am until 2pm.

A set of activities for people with special needs, including wheel chair basketball, football, athletics, weightlifting, boccia, shodan, sitting volleyball and table tennis have also been planned at the Bahrain Sports Federation for Disabilities.


The Bahrain Handball Association, located at Um Al Hassam Sports Complex, is bringing an under-12 festival featuring a variety of sports and entertaining programmes from 9.30am until 3.30pm. A bowling competition will take place at three different venues (Funland, Ozone Hall, Adhari Park Hall) from 10am until 4pm, a tennis tournament and other activities will take place at the Bahrain Polytechnic University from 10am until 5pm, while the Bahrain Billiards and Snooker Federation is hosting an event for government and private schools from 10am until 6pm. The Bahrain Motor Federation is bringing a group of activities from 2pm until 8pm, including motocross, autocross, karting and motorbike at the Bahrain International Circuit.
