Coast Guard gets new vessel ‘Safra 1’

ManamaInterior Minister, Lt-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa launched “Safra 1” landing ship at the Coast Guard headquarters in Bander Al Dar yesterday.

The ship, equipped to carry search, rescue and firefighting operations, was launched as part of the modernisation strategy of the Coast Guard.  

The Interior Minister was received by Deputy Interior Minister, Lt-General Adel bin Khalifa Al Fadhel, Chief of Public Security, Major-General Tariq Al Hassan, Chairman of Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard Company (ASRY) Shaikh Duaj bin Salman Al Khalifa, Interior Ministry Undersecretary, Shaikh Nasser bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa and Coast Guard Commander, Brigadier Alaa Siyadi.

Shaikh Rashid  was briefed through a film on the project’s 15-month phases that was implemented by ASRY in cooperation with the Coast Guard. The Interior Minister stressed the continuation with the development and modernisation strategy for all security sectors, highlighting the completion of the maritime security project and maritime advanced radars and cameras and their role in the protection of coastlines and territorial waters  to ensure safe maritime environment and security to vital establishments.

In a ceremony after the launch, the project management team members and the crew of the ship were honoured in addition to the staff and those involved in the last security operation.
