More attacks on schools in two days

ManamaAt least ten attacks  on public schools were reported during the past two days, the authorities announced yesterday.

Education Ministry described the attacks as “new terrorist attacks on public schools”, clarifying that six schools were targeted in different parts of the Kingdom.

The ministry’s Public Relations and Information directorate confirmed that educational institutions were targeted 521 times since the 2011 events.

“A group of terrorists broke into Malkiya Intermediate Girls’ School, one of the new schools built by the State. They threatened the guard and robbed eight fire extinguishers. which were used in carrying out terrorist acts,” the directorate said in its statement.

It also revealed that Diraz Intermediate Girls’ School was targeted with five consecutive attacks that included sabotaging the school walls, breaking the surveillance cameras and blocking the roads to the school with iron rods and wooden planks.

The directorate said more attacks such as arson, explosions and vandalism targeted several schools in Sanabis, Bilad Al Qadeem and Sitra.

“Such terrorist acts that aim at depriving students from their right of receiving education are condemned. They are against the teachings of Islam and violate all international pacts and humanitarian conventions,” the directorate’s statement added.
