Municipality receives more than 1000 complaints

ManamaMore than 1000 complaints related to rainwater flooding were reported in the Northern Governorate in the past two days.

This was confirmed by Northern Area Municipality Director Yousif Al Ghatam, who said the complaints were lodged by citizens and residents in different parts of the governorate, including Saar, Aali, Hamad Town and other areas.

The director said that more than 1500 tanks of accumulated rainwater were excavated by 26 water tankers from areas like Jeblat Habshi, Salmabad, Aali and near Roundabout 22 in Hamad Town.

“The municipality’s emergency teams are working in full swing to tackle this issue, as instructed by the Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa,” Al Ghatam stated.

“Bahrain and the Arabian Gulf region have been recently affected by unstable weather conditions. Rainfall percentages recorded by the beginning of last week were around 17 cubic millimetres, which is normal. But the rainfall during the past two days has crossed 80 cubic mm,” the official said.

He added that complains are received around the clock and that the cooperation of the public is important to overcome the issue.
