Three Asian workers die of smoke inhalation in Bahrain
Manama: Three expatriate workers were found dead in their room at Jidhafs early in the morning yesterday.
The workers are identified as Tahir Farooq (37), Binoo Kumar Prasad (35) and Haji Muhammad (28). They were sleeping near a power generator to keep themselves away from the cold and was asphyxiated following inhalation of carbon monoxide, according to sources. Another worker, Mantu Kumar, who is in critical condition, is admitted to SMC. Kumar works for Alasif Construction.
According to the information from Labour Market Regulatory Board website, Tahir Farooq is also working for Alasif Construction. The Interior Ministry confirmed the deaths in a Twitter message.
The injured Mantu Kumar, who has a valid visa, is son of Ramsital Prasad but more details are not available.
Binoo Kumar Prasad is a worker from northern India. Details of Tahir Farooq and Haji Muhammad are not available.
Among the dead, Binoo Kumar Prasad is an Indian expatriate and the whereabouts of the other two are yet to be known. The Indian Community Relief Fund (ICRF) coordinator John Philip said the ICRF is aware of the incident and is providing necessary help. Their bodies are kept in the Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) morgue.
