Hsine, Gabana win in Al Areen run

ManamaAbdellatif Ait Hsine (31.38 minutes) and Marine Gabana (44:27) won the men’s and women’s overall categories respectively in the Nando’s Al Areen Wildlife Park and Reserve venue run over 10kms and organised by the Bahrain Road Runners (BRR).

This is one of the most popular runs on the BRR calendar and attracted around 400 runners including 140 junior runners age from 5 to 15 years and participated by both Bahraini and expatriate communities from all points of the earth.

The setting is unique as it is one of five designated Bahraini preservation heritage areas in the Kingdom and the only one on land, with the other four in the sea. The race began with the junior runners aged from five to 15 years in various categories running inside the Reserve and all who had registered were presented with medals.

As for the adults, they had a 10km run in cool conditions and plenty of crosswinds to contend with in the open park environment and faced smallish inclines and then reciprocated by declines to the enthusiasm of the runners, especially the ones who were struggling. All the adult runners who participated and completed the race were presented with medals.

In second placed place in the men’s category was Nawaf Al Dhaen (33:56) and Pierre Pierre Plumejau (34:36), while second place in the women’s was Bethan Lewis (46:18) and Alex Catallo (47:26).

Vice chairman of the BRR Mohsin Al Sharif said, “It was a fantastic turn out for all in this annual event on our calendar and especially seeing so many youngsters taking part and we welcome more in future events.”

The event was open for all participants and friends a chance to see the park and the animals.

Trophies were awarded to the top three in each age category male/female.
