Jail sentences reduced in Barhama riot case
Manama : Three defendants accused in connection with setting two water tanks on fire in Barhama have had their jail sentences reduced on appeals.
The trio are also accused of unleashing riot in the village before burning the tanks.
One of the culprits was arrested while attempting to enter “Ma’atam”, a religious place, according to court files. The other men were arrested later after police investigations found that they were also involved in the riots.
The defendants were earlier handed down three years in prison each on charges of arson and rioting.
The Supreme Appeals Court later cut their jail terms to only one year behind bars each after they challenged the court of first instance’s verdict.
