Poor quality meat seized from shop
Manama : A shop in the capital was locked down yesterday after health authorities found that slaughtered poultry and rabbits sold there were stored in unhygienic conditions.
Food Control Department in the Public Health Directorate of Health Ministry seized the items based on a complaint received.
Primary Care and Public Health Assistant Undersecretary Dr. Mariam Al Hajery said the raid was conducted following a tip-off that rotten poultry were being sold in the Capital.
“When the specialised teams visited the shop, slaughtered poultry and rabbits were found stored in unhygienic conditions. The department confiscated all the products and shop was shutdown immediately. The source of the products is unknown”, Dr. Al Hajery stated, adding that an investigation has been launched.
Dr. Al Hajery added that the Animal Wealth Department in Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry was informed about the incident and more coordination to combat such occurrences was urged.
The official called upon consumers to cooperate and report any health and foodstuff violations on the ministry’s hotline +97339427743.
Meanwhile, sources close to DT News confirmed that the shop from which the items were seized is located in Central Manama and sells Egyptian and Sudanese foodstuff.
However the ministry did not confirm this information.
