It’s a homemade supercar
For Bill Tate nothing is impossible, even if that is about building a super car from scratch.
And this is what exactly happened when Tate, a Dubai-based Canadian expatriate drove his batmobile-like sports car out of his garage.
At the recent Dubai Motor’s Grand Parade, Tate turned heads as he drove his sleek black batmobile-like sports car that he assembled from a kit.
The 600 Horsepower, Ultima GTR that goes from zero to 96.56km/h in 2.6 seconds and enjoys top speed of 321.86km/h, Tate’s special automobile that holds a pride of place in his garage, which has a Ducatti motorcycle and a Nissan 370Z sports mobile.
“I am passionate about sports cars and love to tinker with my cars and motorbikes, so I thought why not build my own car from scratch that would be exclusive and unique and something I would be proud to own? I scoured the internet and came across this kit available with a UK-based company Ultima Sports,” says Tate who is now used to the idea of getting compliments from passersby whenever he takes the Ultima out for spin.
Tate refuses to reveal the price, but says he was able to build his car at half the market price of a ready-made model.
“The basic kit, which comes without the engine arrived in 2008 and I got to choose the colour [black]. But every upgrade costs additional and I ordered a special 600 Hp Chevrolet VS custom-built engine from a US company to get the best results,” said Tate who spent all his free hours in his garage for an entire year.
“My car was ready in 2009, luckily before I got married, and that gave me a lot of free time to work in a focused manner in building it. It was hard work, I loved every minute of the creative process,” added Tate who has done about 10,000 miles in his car driving it to the mountains of Fujairah and the Dubai Autodrome and participated for the first time at the Dubai Motor Parade.
