Pakistanis jailed for robbery
Two Pakistani nationals accused of robbery were sentenced to 10 years in jail. The accused, aged 25 and 23, reportedly robbed a local Dairy Queen’s branches, where the 25-year-old was an employee.
In the attack carried out on July 26 last year at 5:45am, they escaped with BD3,200. According to court documents, the duo planned to carry out the attack together by holding a Filipina cashier at knife-point.
The latter said she received a call a few minutes prior to the attack from the 25-year-old convict who instructed her to keep the restaurant’s back door open as someone was bringing some belongings of the branch manager.
The 25-year-old said in his statement before the Public Prosecution, “My financial situation is very bad and I came up with the idea to rob the restaurant to meet my needs. I really needed some money and a friend (the second accused) agreed to help me. I knew exactly when the cash would be counted at the counter, and so we planned accordingly.
When the woman opened the back door, the duo pushed her against the wall. They then tied her up keeping a knife on her neck. They robbed the money and split it between them.
The High Criminal Court ordered for their deportation once they complete their jail terms.
