Shrimping ban from Wednesday

Manama : The annual ban on shrimping will come into force on Wednesday in an effort to protect marine resources in the Kingdom, DT News has learnt. Shrimping and selling fresh prawns will be banned until September 15, as per Resolution 27 of 2017 of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam Khalaf. The decision, which was published in the Official Gazette on Thursday, bans shrimping and the sale of fresh shrimps in local markets. Additionally, it was mentioned that possessing tools and equipment used in catching shrimp is illegal during the six-month ban period.The minister’s resolution was issued on March 7 and warned that violators will be held accountable under the law. Bahrain annually bans shrimping for a period of four to six months to protect marine resources and allow the creatures to reproduce. Similar decisions are applied in other countries in the region such as Kuwait.
