Customs foils liquor smuggling attempt

ManamaThe Saudi customs recently foiled an attempt to smuggle liquor bottles hidden in the tyres of a vehicle coming from Bahrain.

King Fahd Causeway Customs announced that 312 liquor bottles were found concealed in the tyres of a vehicle that was entering Saudi Arabia from Bahrain through the causeway.

This is the second attempt that was reported in 45 days.

King Fahd Causeway Saudi Customs General Director Dhaifallah Al Otaiby stated that the bottles were found hidden in the four tyres of a private SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle).

Al Otaiby said that another attempt to smuggle liquor through the causeway was reported last week, revealing that 46 bottles were found hidden inside the petrol tank of a vehicle.

DT News had reported last month that the Saudi authorities foiled a similar attempt to smuggle 100 bottles of liquor hidden in the tyres of a vehicle crossing the causeway from Bahrain.

In a separate incident, custom officers also seized 105 kilogrammes of banned animal drugs that were also found hidden in the tyres of a vehicle entering the Kingdom through the Fahd Causeway.
