‘King of Desert’ drifting dazzles at BIC

Manama : Practices got action off to a scintillating start yesterday in the “King of Desert” drifting championship at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in Sakhir. For the first time ever in the history of Bahrain motorsport, this international pro drifting event is taking place at “The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East”.
Around 20 drifters from all over the world are taking part in the two-day event, which continues today with Qualifications and the Final.
All are welcome to attend today’s activities from 2.30pm to 10pm. All those with tickets to this year’s Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix will be able to watch without any additional cost, while tickets will also be available at the gate at BD5 each. Fans can watch all the action from the Turn One Grandstand and the University Grandstands.
Drifting is being held from BIC’s Michael Schumacher Turn (Turn One) to Turn Three as participants braved the strong early evening yesterday as the competition got underway.
The “King of Desert” in Bahrain is the final round of the region-wide series, which has also made stops in Muscat and Abu Dhabi.
It is part of the Race Fever month-long programme of exciting events organised by BIC as part of the lead-up to the 2017 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix from April 14 to 16, which started on Monday night with a live performance by Bryan Adams.
The “King of Desert” championship is known on the global scale as “Drift King of Nations Pro Series”, and it also holds events in Europe, South America, South Africa, Australia and Asia and recognised as one of the world’s leading professional drifting championships and boasts some of the youngest yet most talented rosters of drivers.
Race Fever continues later this month with a Neon Run on March 24 and Formula 2 (newly rebranded from GP2 Series) Testing on March 30 and 31. Race Fever Game Zone will also be open on those days.
