EU delegation visit a fillip to learning sector

Manama : A 25-member delegation from the European Union visited the Royal University for Women (RUW) here yesterday as a part of the study programme called the “Middle East Working Group” (MOG). The visit was to build a basic understanding on the universities and the education sector in Bahrain.

The delegation visits every year to different parts of GCC to evaluate the work and educational progress. The delegation also examines the growth achieved and the issues that need to be tackled in MENA region.

Fahad Zamil, Chairman of RUW, told DT News, that he was grateful to the delegation for joining him at RUW and extending help to the education sector’s growth and in supporting developments in the MENA region.

Mazin M A Jumaah, President of RUW, while addressing the delegation, expressed his vision for the university. He then highlighted the achievements the university was able to manage in the recent past and suggested various ways where the universities in both Bahrain and EU could work together to help the education system grow.

He also urged the delegation to assist the university in getting an EU accreditation. He said he would take up all measures to meet the technicalities required for the accreditation.

“The visit was by all means a great success. It was an opportunity for both sides to meet and discuss about setting up new joint initiatives including opening of new academic institutions for the benefit of as many students as possible,” said Jumaah to the DT News.

Alexis Koustanto, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to KSA and Bahrain, said that they are delighted to be in the Kingdom. He said they were so overwhelmed by the warm welcome they had beengiven.

“We find that EU has a lot to offer, but we need to identify the niche areas and extend support for the necessary build up,” said Alexis Koustanto, adding that the visit would lead to more greater things especially in the education sector. Antoinette Chefai, President of the EU Council, said that they are looking forward to extend all technical supports to the country in achieving its goals in education sector.
