A large cache of smuggled birds was seized at King Fahd Causeway recently, it was reported.
A Saudi local daily, Al Madina, reported “custom services succeeded in catching two attempts of smuggling 615 birds of different species in two different vehicles to Saudi Arabia from Bahrain.”
Saudi Customs at King Fahd Causeway General Director Dhaif Al Otaibi said the attempts were foiled when the first smuggling vehicle was caught with 115 birds of various shapes and types hidden in openings of the front and rears of the vehicle’s doors.
He added that another smuggling vehicle was foiled with 500 birds found hidden in different parts of the vehicle.
The General Director confirmed to prevent any importation of live birds of all kinds from all countries except hatching eggs and chicks under supervision of an official party.
However, the occurrence was not confirmed by Bahraini authorities.
