British Club A, Dilmun Club B win netball titles

Manama : British Club A defeated two-time defending champions Rugby Club A 17-12 to clinch the First Division title and BMMI Dilmun Club B were crowned champions of the Second Division following a 21-3 victory against Rugby Club B in the final round of matches of the Bahrain Expatriate Netball League at the British Club on Tuesday night.
The British Club A who beat BMMI Dilmun A 16-12 in the semi-final following a three-match round-robin competition, secured a 6-4 first quarter lead and by half-time led by 12-9 and going into the final quarter were 15-11 ahead.
Representing the British Club, were (GS) Claire Van Minnen, (GA) Emily Percy, (WA) Martine Timmers-Arends, (C) Emma Wales, (GD) Danika Hampel, player of the match and wing defence, Tamsin Smith, (GK) Merelda Verstev and substitute Carol Woodrow.
The Rugby Club was represented by (GS) Sheron Hujair, goal attack and player of the match Ruth Daly, (WA) Sarah Hobday, (C) Jo Mannings, (WD) Kirsten Blore, (GD) Jeannine Wessels, (GK) Katy Brand and substitute Khulood Sabah.
For one of the Rugby Club players it was an emotional farewell to the league as ex-chair lady of the league, Katy Brand played her last match and is moving on from Bahrain.
In the match for third place, BMMI Dilmun Club A beat British Club B 15-7 after leading 4-2 after the first quarter and then 7-3 by half-time going into the final quarter 10-6 ahead.
Players of the match were centre Rama Salem for Dilmun and goal defence Danika Hampel for the British Club.
Meanwhile, BMMI Dilmun Club B clinched the Division Two title after winning all five matches in the round-robin league following a 21-3 win over Rugby Club B with a 5-0 first quarter lead, 11-2 lead at half-time and going into the final quarter 17-2 ahead.
Players of the match were centre Abigail Knapton and goal keeper Helen Murphy.
In the other matches played, GNT Sri Lanka Club finished second overall with a 24-14 win over BMMI Dilmun C with players of the matches being goal attack Kushi Nagahawatte for Sri Lanka and goal shooter Amy Watson and British Club C were 14-9 winners over St Christopher’s with the players of the match being the centre for British Club Helena Johnson and the centre for St Christopher’s Dawn Gosling.
