Art Exhibition BAB2017 focuses on emerging artists
Manama : Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of HM the King and President of the Supreme Council of Women, emphasized on the importance of harnessing arts and artistic talents through conducting frequent exhibitions in the Kingdom of Bahrain, saying it as an integral part of bolstering the national economy and promoting the Kingdom as a tourist and cultural destination.
Her Royal Highness was inaugurating the Bahrain Art Across Border (BAB2017) Exhibition at Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre (BIECC) yesterday.
Her Royal Highness lauded the efforts being made in investing in arts and providing appropriate climate for hosting mega artistic events that blend diverse artistic talents under one roof, which would help exchange ideas between the young Bahraini talents considered to be the nucleus for the future artistic movement in Bahrain.
Princess Sabeeka called for the need of harnessing all modern technologies to develop the youth’s talent and to utilize them in a way that matches with the requirements of the contemporary age.
At the same time, Her Royal Highness praised the creativity of the artists, reflected on their works, which she said were masterpieces that proved the depth of their ideas and expressions based on artistic school, rich humanitarian heritage and civilization acquired from Bahrain’s ancient history.
The debutant exhibition showcased a number of masterpieces created by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa under the theme of ‘Nature’, which were proof of utilising hi-tech electronic devices in creating those digital masterpieces.
Princess Sabeeka later toured the exhibition, including the Art BAB Pavilion where works of 36 Bahraini artists funded by Tamkeen were exhibited. There were contemporary masterpieces from various galleries which included artistic furniture pieces, graphics and sculptures from the 1930s from Dubai, the Sultanate of Oman, India and the European countries including Denmark, France, UK, Estonia and Ukraine.
The video panoramic show “Floating World”, having 32 large screens, featured international documentaries as well as from the Kingdom.
The exhibition opened yesterday will be on till March 26. More art productions are expected from the Middle East, Europe, Asia and the USA along with the home artists, the reports said.
Tamkeen is supporting the exhibition in its capacity as the key institution of the Kingdom in the private sector. ArtSelect, Global Artistic Consultancy firm, is reported to be organizing and managing this major art exhibition.
BAB2017 is supported by the following strategic partners: Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), Economic Development Board (EDB), Bahrain Authority of Culture and Antiquities (BACA), Gulf Air Company, Bahrain Telecommunication Company (BATELCO) and Bahrain Airport Company (BAC).
