Barbar clinch handball title

Manama : Barbar yesterday clinched the mini handball championships as part of the ongoing Fourth Mini Olympics at the Bahrain Handball Association gym in Umm Al Hassam.
Both Barbar and Al Ahli in the four-team round robin final round finished on seven points from three matches, with the former having a better goal difference, which proved decisive.
The tournament started on Friday with 11 teams divided into two groups, with each of the group winners and runners-up playing off for the title as Barbar and Al Tadamon qualified from Group A and Al Ahli and Tubli from Group B.
Yesterday’s programme also included competition in taekwondo and jiu jitsu at The Bahrain Sports for Disabilities Federation hall, which was open to both boys and girls and each featured 15 weight categories.
In taekwondo, Al Noor School dominated most of the competition in both the primary and intermediate age categories, with winners of the boys intermediate stage being Mohammed Husain (-33kg, Al Bilad Al Qadeem), Yousif Husain (37-41kg, Othman bin Affan) and Husain Ali (49-53kg, Imam Ali).
Meanwhile, the finals of the boys primary and intermediate stages, in addition to swimming events are due to take place today at the Bahrain Football Association grounds in Riffa.
In the intermediate stage championship semi-finals, Creativity take on the Indian School, while Al Naseem face Kanoo International School, to be followed by the match.
The primary championship stage semi-finals sees Group A winner Hawar face Group B winner Budaiya, while Al Hekma who topped Group C take on Group D winner Al Naseem, with the winners facing off in the gold medal match later today.
Mini Olympics action concludes on March 29 with hockey and athletics events, while the curtain will come down on the Mini Olympics on March 30 when the closing ceremony takes place.
