Banned medicine seized from doctor
Manama : Prohibited drugs used in medications were confiscated from the house of a female Asian doctor, who was recently arrested for conducting illegal abortion operations at a private hospital in the Kingdom.
Ministries and Public Institutions Prosecution Head General Attorney Mamdouh Al Ma’awda announced yesterday that the prosecution was notified about the doctor by the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA).
“NHRA informed that the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science detected an Asian female doctor who has been conducting illegal abortion operations at a private hospital in return for certain amounts,” Al Ma’awda stated.
“The prosecution issued a warrant to search the defendant’s residence, where assorted drugs used in banned abortion operations and amounts of money in different currencies were detected and confiscated,” he added.
The prosecution interrogated the defendant and ordered to detain her pending further investigations and to handover the seized drugs to NHRA for examination.
DT News reported on Saturday that the woman was arrested after the police was tipped-off about her illegal activities and that investigations led to catching her red handed.
No further details were available on the identity of the doctor or the private hospital she worked at.
