Budaiya captures football gold

Manama : Budaiya School was yesterday crowned champion of the primary boys football tournament in the Fourth Mini Olympics, following a 4-0 win over Al Hekma International School in the final at the Bahrain Football Association grounds in Riffa.
Kanoo International followed suit, winning the intermediate boys stage competition gold medal with a narrow 1-0 victory over Creativity School in the other boys final.
In the girls section, Kanoo topped the intermediate stage competition, followed by Al Hekma International School and Hawar School in second and third places respectively.
The most recent action also featured in Cricket, Aquathlon and Jiu jitsu. The cricket was staged at St. Christopher’s School in Isa Town with some exciting matches in the boys and girls sections.
Combined School ‘A’ team came on top in the boys intermediate championship for the gold medal, Indian School took the silver and Ibn Al Haitham Islamic School the bronze.
In the girls intermediate division, the Indian School proved too strong to win the gold medal against St. Christopher’s School and Combined School ‘A’, who settled for silver and bronze respectively.
The Aquathlon competition, open for boys and girls, started with 300m swim followed by 2,000m run for intermediate stage, while the more challenging secondary stage events featured a 400m swim and 3,000m run.
Liam Marshall of the British School of Bahrain topped the boys intermediate race and the girls intermediate event was won by Arabella Rushton of St. Christopher’s School, while St. Christopher’s George Atman and Kizzy Price raced to victory in the boys and girls secondary stage challenge.
The Bahrain Sports for Disabilities Federation hall in Riffa hosted the Jiu jitsu events open for boys and girls and each featured 13 weight categories, ranging from under-19kg and reaching up to under-81kg, and included two girls weight sections.
Action continues today with the Karting finals in cooperation with Bahrain Motor Federation and hosted by the Bahrain International Karting Circuit, the deciding karting races will begin from 10.30am with the first qualifying race for girls.
