Death of Hamdan: Details revealed
Manama : More details about the Bahraini youngster who died on Friday after a headshot sustained in Diraz in January were revealed by the Terror Crimes Prosecution lately.
According to the testimony of the mother of Mustafa Hamdan, 17, the latter’s body was found on the doorsteps of his house in Karbabad, around 10 kilometres to the east of Diraz village where he was apparently injured.
Terror Crimes Prosecution Chief General Attorney Ahmed Al Hammadi confirmed that the Public Prosecution was notified at around 5 am on January 26 by Budaiya police station about a person brought to Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) after a severe head injury.
“The mother informed that she found her son’s body on the doorsteps of their house in Karbabad area and that she had moved him to SMC with the help of another person,” the general attorney revealed.
Al Hammadi confirmed that a team from the Terror Crime Prosecution immediately moved to SMC where the injured person was found in operations room.
He said that medical reports and the emergency room doctors stated that the injured individual’s skull was fractured because of a solid object and that he suffered from brain haemorrhage, a broken nose and eye injuries, in addition to detecting metal shrapnel in different parts of his body.
“The Terror Crimes Prosecution was notified about the person’s death on March 24. A coroner was assigned to examine the body and the police to conduct investigations,” Al Hammadi added.
DT News reported on Saturday that Hamdan died at SMC on Friday after succumbing to the wounds he sustained in a shootout in Diraz village on January 26. The 17-year-old reportedly remained in a comma for almost two months.
The National Human Rights Institution (NIHR) had stated last month that the deceased was injured during a shootout between a group of masked men and others hurling stones, early in the morning on January 26 in Diraz. No further information was available.
