Businessman Mohammed Jalal passes away at 97

ManamaMohammed Jalal, one of Bahrain’s pioneer businessman, passed away here yesterday. He was 97. Jalal began his career in 1947 when he set up Mohammed Jalal and Sons Company, one of the prestigious family businesses that contributed much to the development of Bahrain. 

Mohammed Jalal and Sons currently operates in several sectors including construction, oil and gas, contracting, engineering, trading, information technology services, food and beverages, travelling, interior design, elevators, security and other fields.

The company also operates in Saudi Arbia, Kuwait, UAE, Qatar and Oman, and is the official agent of several international brands such as Suzuki Motors, General Electric etc.

Jalal is survived by sons Jalal, Ahmed, Sami and Fouad, and two daughters Lulua and Fawzia. His body will be laid to rest in Muharraq graveyard today after Dhuhr prayers (around 12 pm).

Condolences could be offered at his residence in Adliya between 9:30 am and 12:30 pm, and 4 pm to 7:30 pm.

A kind-hearted gentleman

Mohammed Jalal was one of the finest businessmen in Bahrain, said Nevin Megchiani, General Manager of the Engineering and Technology Division, at Mohammed Jalal and Sons, who knew him since 1958.

“We had a special relationship. He considered me as a son and I loved him as my father. We are a family,” said a grieved Megchiani, adding that Jalal was a kind-hearted gentleman to everyone he knew.

Mohammed Jalal gave him the opportunity to begin the engineering and technology business in 1964 and that he has been heading the division since then.
