Several Asian men arrested in assault and robbery cases

ManamaSeveral Asian men were arrested in the past two days over assault and robbery cases.

Police on Tuesday arrested two men and launched a manhunt for another, as they are suspected to be involved in brutally beating a Bahraini man in Manama on the same day.

Capital Governorate Police General Director Colonel Khalid Al Thawadi confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday night that the suspects were Asian and that they attacked a 41-year-old citizen near a traditional coffee shop in Manama.The Col. Also said that the victim sustained serious injuries and that he was hospitalised.

“Once the case was reported on Tuesday, police launched its investigation and identified the suspects. Two were arrested and a search was launched to catch the third man. Investigations indicated that the incident was a result of a brawl between the suspects and the victim. Investigations are continuing and legal proceedings were taken to refer the case to the Public Prosecution,” the official added.

Capital Prosecution Chief Mohammed Al Maliki said in a statement yesterday that the Public Prosecution had received a report from the Capital Police Directorate indicating that a Bahraini citizen was severely beaten by a group of Asian nationals near a café in Old Manama.

“The citizen suffered serious wounds and was admitted to the intensive care unit at the hospital. The Public Prosecution, soon after it had been notified of the incident, questioned two suspects and remanded them in custody pending further investigation. It also listened to the statements of witnesses,” Al Maliki said.

He added that the prosecution requested the police to conduct intensive search in order to arrest the third suspect to complete investigations and refer the case to the competent criminal court.

In a separate incident, Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science General Director Colonel Abddulaziz Al Rumaihi yesterday announced the arrest of four Asian men who assaulted another Asian man and stealing gold worth BD13, 000 from him.

He added that investigations led to the identification and arrest of the suspects, and that the case will be soon referred to the Public Prosecution after legal procedures are completed.
