More than 200 join the run for charity

ManamaThe Harbour Row Charity Marathon turned out to be a huge success with the participation of more than 200 people from all age groups.

The event, under the patronage of Supreme Council for Youth & Sport Chairman, Bahrain Olympic Committee President & Royal Charity Organisation (RCO) Chairman HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, was held yesterday at the Bahrain Financial Harbour.

Lauding the role of sports in supporting noble gestures, Shaikh Nasser said, “The marathon reflects the important role of sports in bringing humanitarian and social values alive.”

“Sports today are not limited to competition and achieving titles, but go beyond that in their content and values, becoming an important tool in serving charity efforts.”

“The tangible keenness of Bahraini citizens and residents to participate in such activities and events reflects the social awareness level of the importance of sports in maintaining the safety and health of human beings, and their role in promoting and spreading happiness and self-satisfaction,” he added

The event was organised by GFH Real Estate in collaboration with the Royal Charity Organisation and Bahrain Road Runners.

Proceeds will go to the Royal Charity Organisation in support of its ‘Bakery Project’ to provide employment and economic opportunities to  widows.

HH Shaikh Nasser praised the efforts of GFH Real Estate in hosting such events that reflect the firm’s role in maintaining social responsibility. He also applauded the efforts of all those involved in organising the event.
