FIA Formula 2: Leclerc on pole

Manama : Charles Leclerc (one minute 38.907 seconds) from Monaco driving for PREMA Racing claimed pole position yesterday in qualifying for the season-opening feature race of the FIA Formula 2 Championship, being held in support of the 2017 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir.

Second place was his teammate Italian Antonio Fuoco (+0.678) who locked up the front row for their team with Dutchman Nyck de Vries (+0.758) of the Rapax team qualifying in third place.

The fourth to eighth places went to Norman Nato (FRA, Pertamina Arden, 1:42.594), Luca Ghiotto (ITA, RUSSIAN TIME, 1:42.715), Nobuharu Matsushita (JPN, ART Grand Prix, 1:43.213), Artem Markelov (RUS, RUSSIAN TIME, 1:42.313) and Oliver Rowland (GBR, DAMS, 1:42.21).

Earlier the top three in the practice session were, Rowland (1:42.21), Markelow (+0.092 seconds) in second and Leclerc (+0.515). Today the first race of the season is set for a 1.10pm start over 32 minuts or a 60 minute time limit.
