National reading campaign from April 23 to 27
Manama : A national reading campaign is all set to take place across Bahrain from April 23 to 27.
The campaign, entitled “READ”, is aimed at inspiring children and families to read and make the younger generation as well as parents aware of the importance of reading.
“We are focusing on early readers and children under the age of 12 years old. The campaign will be a full week of activities and events including an outdoor book related movie on Marassi Beach, a workshop for parents on the art of storytelling at Words Book Café,” said Hala Ali Al Khalifa, Project Manager of the campaign, at a press conference organised to reveal the details of the programme, at the Isa Cultural Centre yesterday.
Organised by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with Isa Cultural Centre and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the campaign coincides with UNESCO’s World Book Day.
“The campaign will include visits to both public and private schools across Bahrain in a portable library bus where local thinkers, authors and social media influencers are invited to be reading ambassadors and read to students,” said Hala Ali Al Khalifa.
The other panel members of the campaign are:
Latifa Al Bunoodha, Assistant Undersecretary for General and Technical Education; Sheikha Abdullah Al-Batt, Salman Cultural Centre, MOYS; and Dr. Mansour Sarhan, Director of the National Library and member of the Board of Trustees of the Isa Cultural Centre.
