Ensure safety of doctors: PM

ManamaHis Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa yesterday instructed to ensure the safety of medical staff in public health facilities. The directive came while chairing the regular weekly Cabinet session held at the Gudaibiya Palace yesterday.

Two days ago a Bahraini doctor was attacked by two patients at the Hereditary Blood Disorder Centre in Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC). The doctor reportedly suffered injuries due to the attack. The directive comes in the backdrop of this incident.

“HRH Prime Minister issued the directive to find a solution to the problem and take administrative measures to deal with anything that affects the smooth flow of services at heath facilities and to ensure the protection of government employees at workplaces,” said Cabinet Secretary General Dr. Yasser Al Nasser in a press statement yesterday.

The Supreme Council for Health (SCH) Chairman Lieutenant General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa praised the Premier’s directive and said it reflects his keenness on providing best health services for citizens and residents. “SCH regretted the incident of attacking a doctor of the Hereditary Blood Disorder Centre at SMC by patients,” the Lt. Gen. said, expressing his rejection of this phenomenon. He sought the coordination with the Health Ministry, health service providers and Bahraini Physicians Society to avoid the reoccurrence of such incidents. SCH will discuss in the next meeting the protection and safety regulations of medical personnel on duty, he said.

The Cabinet meeting held yesterday reviewed the projects aimed at providing world-class infrastructure that spurs sustainable growth. In this context 43 tenders have been awarded in the first quarter of 2017, said the Minister of Works.
