ASRY up-skilling local workforce

Manama : The Arabian Shipbuilding and Repair Yard (ASRY) yesterday announced plans to train 770 employees in 2017, as part of its rolling programme aimed at strengthening yard’s development of the local workforce. 

In 2016, the in-house programme trained 519 employees, according to a statement by ASRY.  The programme consumed a total of 17,734 hours, translating into an average of 32 hours-per-employee. 

Commenting, ASRY Chief Executive, Andy Shaw, said, “Developing and enhancing ASRY employee’s capabilities is not only a critical success factor for the future of ASRY but also an opportunity to give back to the Kingdom.” 

“The courses range from safety and fire training, to work permit education, to medical and first aid inspector training, to occupational safety and health management systems awareness, and much more. All accredited by international bodies,” said Shaikh Duaij Bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Human Resources and General Services Senior manager. 

The training strategies were developed in association with Bright, Bureau Veritas, Bahrain Training Institute, DNA, and more and in collaboration with the Bahrain Ministry of Interior, ASRY said in a statement.
