Airplane replica used for drill yet to be removed
Manama : The airplane replica, which was found abandoned in Hidd raising the curiosity of spectators, was used by the National Disaster Management Committee for an emergency drill over a week ago, sources told DT News yesterday. The replica is yet to be removed from the site.
The model is in a wrecked state with its tail separated from the rest of the body. Sources said that since the plane model is in an open field, it could be spotted from a long distance.
“It can be seen from the highway and the adjacent roads. Although it is smaller than regular planes, it can still be seen and it looks like a normal plane from a distance,” the source said. According to the sources, the plane is made of thermocol, metal and other materials. The plane has been a distraction for motorists who pass by.
“It is dangerous because motorists who pass by the highway can become scary, leading to accidents,” said Hassan, a motorist who visited the site yesterday.
“While from close it is obvious that it is a replica, from afar it looks like an actual plane and some people may find that scary.”
“I saw this while driving and I went out of my way to come here to find out what this was about,” he added.
Abdallah, a youngster residing in the area, said he was shocked to see it. “I was just walking in the area when I spotted it. I did not go to check it immediately but I called my brother and we went together to see it, only when we went close to it did we realize that it is a fake plane.” he said.
A video about a plane crash in Hidd circulating on social media is hoax, DT News has learnt. The footage showed the airplane model in a wrecked state and the man filming the video claimed that an actual plane had crashed there. The man was apparently driving as he filmed the airplane model being surrounded by cars and few people.
