Rick de Groot wins Abdulla Ali Kanoo Cup
Manama : Rick de Groot (gross 83, net 61) was the overall winner and a three shot cut for his endeavours in the 49th Abdulla Ali Kanoo Cup held at Awali Golf Club (AGC).
A field of 90 players took to the course in hot but near perfect playing conditions resulting in some exceptional scoring, runner-up was Onny Martin (gross 80, net 62), while Ali Musbah took the medal with a one over 70 gross.
The Kanoo family has been long term sponsors of AGC with the first Kanoo Golf Tournament being sponsored in 1966/67. In 2011/12 the competition was renamed the Abdulla Ali Kanoo Cup in memory of the late Chairman.
Hanna Kanoo, daughter of the late chairman Abdulla Ali Kanoo was assisted by Bryan Webster and Steve Wagstaff in presenting prizes to the respective winners. A full clubhouse acknowledged Bill Scarth, this season’s captain in his last Master of Ceremonies role as club captain and joined Bill in a rousing rendition of “The Awali Way” sung to the melody of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way”.
