Nine pavilions to provide info about kidney care at expo

Manama : A top health care exhibition which aims to spread awareness on kidney health was inaugurated at Indian School Bahrain yesterday.

Organised by Thanal, an India-based charity organisation, the three-day ‘Kidney Care’ exhibition will run until Saturday. Close to a thousand people attended the inauguration event yesterday and organisers are expecting a huge turnout today and tomorrow. The chairman of Supreme council for health Lieutenant General Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa who is the patron of the exhibition, inaugurated the event.

Rafeeq Abdullah, the exhibition’s general convenor said that 4000 people have registered online to attend the event while another 6000 have confirmed attendance. 

“Ten thousand people have already confirmed participation. Four thousand people have registered on our website of which 6000 people are staff members of various companies. We are expecting a much greater number than this. We have 200 volunteers working today and another 300 working tomorrow and day after.”

A model of a kidney built by Thanal volunteers will be on display. “This will be a big attraction as it is something unique. It is so impressive that we have even been suggested that we should consider submitting this to the Guinness Book of World Records,” he said.

“This is going to be one of the biggest event of its kind in the GCC. We are grateful to the support extended to us by the Ministry of Health and the Supreme Council for Health,” he added.

Nine pavilions have been arranged at the exhibition with each pavilion providing various information about kidney health. The pavilions include ‘What is Kidney’ , ‘Causes of Kidney failure’, ‘Symptoms of Kidney diseases’, ‘How to diagnose Kidney diseases’, ‘Treatment modalities for kidney diseases’, ‘how to save a kidney’ and ‘visual documentation of kidney care’. Kidney screening is also part of the exhibition, today and tomorrow, the visitors will be offered a albumin test and a creatinine test if necessary. 

“Today being the inauguration day, kidney screening is not offered but it will be offered on the next two days,” Abdulla said. The expo will be held today and tomorrow from 8am to 6:00pm.
