Premier urges cooperation to achieve food security
Manama : Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa yesterday called on nations in the Gulf Cooperation Council to ensure the success of agricultural policies by stepping up cooperation.
While receiving the members of the GCC Agricultural Cooperation Committee at the Gudaibiya Palace, the Premier also highlighted that increased cooperation is necessary to ensure “the optimal use and preservation of natural resources to develop agricultural and livestock projects.”
GCC ministers and officials in charge of agricultural affairs were present on the occasion. They were in Bahrain to participate in the 28th meeting of the GCC Agricultural Cooperation Committee in Bahrain.
Lauding the strides made by the GCC nations in this regard, the Prime Minister said that he is looking forward to develop stronger cooperation in agricultural projects, dates-related industries and agricultural products to achieve GCC food self-sufficiency.
Affirming the key role played by Saudi Arabia in the sector, the Prime Minister said, “Efforts should be focused on developing each country’s own resources and ensuring their sustainability for the coming generations.”
GCC ministers in charge of agricultural affairs extended thanks and appreciation to HRH the Prime Minister for his interest in strengthening GCC complementarity and cooperation in various fields.
They lauded the Premier’s initiatives to strengthen GCC development, hailing Bahrain’s constant efforts to enhance joint GCC action for the best interests of GCC countries and their peoples.
