ISB gets green signal for Indian students intake

In a big relief to the Indian community, the Ministry of Education (MoE) has given green signal to Indian School Bahrain (ISB) to admit Indian students in the waiting list.

Earlier, the ministry had told the school to stop admission for all classes, causing inconvenience to parents and students.

The ministry had also ordered to send back the students who recently got transferred to ISB, which is one of the largest expatriate schools in the Arabian Gulf with over 12,000 students and a workforce of 600 members.

The ISB was allowed to admit only those students who arrived in Bahrain from India. Students from other schools, which lack facilities for higher studies, were also given admission, but only after obtaining the ministry’s permission.

Relaxing these norms, the Ministry’s Undersecretary for Education and Curriculum Affairs, Dr Abdulla Yousuf Al Muttawa has given permission to admit all Indian students who were in the waiting list. The permission has been given on the consideration of ISB being a community school.

Speaking to DT News, ISB Chairman, Prince Natarajan stated the ministry’s decision was a great relief to ISB and the Indian community.

“Recently, we personally met the ministry officials and explained the difficulties faced by the Indian community due to the restrictions on admission of students. The ministry responded positively, allowing us to admit Indian students,” the chairman said.

The undersecretary also confirmed support to ensure education for all Indian students in Bahrain. At the same time, he asked the school authorities to take steps to limit the number of students per class.

According to ministry norms, the number of students per class should be 20 in kindergarten section and 25 in primary section. The ISB chairman said he would make necessary arrangements to follow the directions of MoE to ensure the safety and security of students.
