Narcotics worth BD10m destroyed by authorities

Manama : Narcotics worth more than BD10 million confiscated between 2008 and 2015 were destroyed by the authorities yesterday.

This was announced by the Head of Judicial Inspection in the Public Prosecution and Head of the Committee for the Destruction or Delivery of Narcotic Substances and Instruments Subject to Confiscation General Attorney Osama Al Awfi, yesterday.

The General Attorney confirmed that the committee destroyed around 2.6 tonnes of assorted narcotic substances with a market value of more than BD10 million.

“The substances were burned inside the ovens of a company at a temperature of up to 900 degrees Celsius for nearly five hours until it was confirmed to be burnt completely. The process was done under the full supervision of the Committee, which documented the entire destruction process,” Al Awfi explained.

He added that the committee was formed by the decision of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa as stipulated by the Law on Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances.

It is headed by Al Awfi and includes members Major General Fawaz Issa Al Dosari in Interior Ministry’s Anti-Narcotics Department, Mohammed Abdul Rahim Bujiri Courts Department Director at Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ministry.
