DTAC 2017 ‘a huge success’

Manama : The District 20 Toastmasters Annual Conference “DTAC 2017”, held under the theme ‘Towards Excellence’, has turned out to be a huge success with the participation of over 700 delegates from seven countries, said a top official at the conference. 

“The contestants this year were very impressive, their performances were of very high quality, and they exceeded all our expectations,” District Director Ali Shahbaz Ali told DT News. Members from Bahrain, UAE, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Lebanon and Jordan took part in the competitions this year. 

The three-day event, which concluded yesterday was held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of Isa bin Salman Educational Charity Waqf and son of HRH the Crown Prince at the Gulf Hotel Bahrain.

The winners: Sameera Khan (International Speech category), Nisha Shivram (Evaluation category), Khalid Ismaeel (Humorous Speech) and Raslyn Resiah (Table topics). Winner of the International Speech contest will compete in the Public Speaking World Championship, due to take place later this year in Canada.

When asked about the future plans of District 20, Ali Shahbaz Ali confirmed to DT News that a decision has been made to split District 20 in the coming months. District 20 comprises of 7500 members from Bahrain, UAE, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Lebanon and Jordan. 

Toastmasters International is a nonprofit organisation that operates worldwide for the purpose of helping members improve their communication, public speaking, and leadership skills.   The conference, a three-day event, is organised annually by each member state on rotation.
