Falcons snatch thrilling win

ManamaTeam ‘Misbah Falcons’ emerged victorious in the tightly contested Bahrain Cricket Festival, which attracted thousands of viewers into the National Stadium in Isa Town.

More than 8,000 people packed the stadium in Isa Town for the one-day match, which had cricketers from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and West Indies as players. 

Entertainment activities including skydiving added more colour and excitement to the match played to promote cricket and boost sports tourism in the Kingdom.

“We want to promote local players through this festival,” Organising Committee Member Arif Sadiq told DT News.  

“We don’t have a proper academy or a proper playground now, hence we are trying to show the people how beneficial this sport can be,” he added.

The event was organised by the Youth and Sports Affairs Ministry and the Bahrain Cricket Academy (BCA) under the patronage of His Majesty the King’s Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee President HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

Youth and Sports Ministry Assistant Undersecretary for Sports and Facilities Khalid Al Haj honoured the winners at the end of the tournament.
