LIFT OFFERED CAR LIFTED!

While driving home one fine day, the victim in a robbery case had no idea what was in store for him. As he reached Hamad Town’s fourth roundabout, he saw his neighbor standing at the sidewalk and so stopped the car beside him.

“I stopped the car and asked him if he needed a lift. He shook his head in approval and entered the vehicle,” the victim indicated in his statement after lodging a complaint.

The neighbor reportedly asked him to drop him at his home, but later changed his mind and requested the victim to take him to Malkiya.

The victim agreed and drove following the neighbour’s directions.

“He asked me to stop in a deserted area, and I did. But suddenly, he took out a small sharp object, placed it near my neck and threatened me to leave the vehicle before he kills me,” the victim said.

The accused also stole his mobile phone and wallet, according to records.

“I jumped off, leaving behind me my mobile phones and my wallet. And then he drove away leaving me there alone,” he added. The victim pointed out the vehicle belonged to his aunt.

The defendant was tried on robbery and hijack charges, and the High Criminal Court sentenced him to 10 years in jail. He is, however, still at large and was convicted in absentia.
