Initiative to curb unruly behaviour in Amwaj

Manama : Police have launched an initiative to curb unruly traffic behaviour and noise complaints in Amwaj Islands.

Responding to complaints from residents of Amwaj Islands, the Interior Ministry has launched an initiative to clampdown on unruly behaviour on the road. According to the Ministry, the motorists who visit the Islands on weekends are to blame of the nuisance. Reportedly, the visitors are guilty of traffic violations and were at the end of noise complaints.

The police initiative has been successful so far, as officers deployed to the Island have ensured order. According to a report in Interior Ministry’s publication Al Amn, thousands of visitors have been guilty of violations. Unnecessary honking and illegal parking have also been the main issues when visitors pour in over the weekend, MOI stated.

“Since the traffic police does not go there regularly, we had to go in and investigate the complaints from residents and visitors. Most of the cases are related to traffic violations, with hundreds of people hanging out on the roads, making a noise, driving around shouting and honking as well as parking all over the place,” said Brig. Fawaz Al Hassan, who is the Muharraq Police Governorate Director General

“Brochures and leaflets are being handed over to all visitors, asking them to follow the rules and police directions. They can have fun but not at the cost of creating a nuisance and violating traffic rules and other rules. We have our people going to the area every now and then and we get weekly reports, on the basis of which action will be planned and taken. The community police are at the forefront of this educational campaign,” he said.

A similar initiative has been launched in the area next to Arad Fort in Arad. “This is a very crowded area and we have had several complaints from residents as well as traders on the difficulties they are facing. Illegal and wrong parking, creating noise and passing remarks on women are the most common issues. We investigated this after we received complaints and noted the problem,” he added.
