GPIC completes 24m hrs without lost time

ManamaGulf Petrochemical Industries Co. (GPIC) said it has achieved more than 24 million hours of work without a lost time accident in 2016, which also resulted in recording a profit of US$1 million for the year. 

The results, according to GPIC’s Annual Report released yesterday, has maintained the company’s record of eradicating crippling work accidents since May 2002.

In terms of production, GPIC achieved a new record in annual production of Urea, amounting to 704,003 metric tonnes, and a combined production of 1,617,422 metric tonnes of Urea, Ammonia and Methanol, for the first time in its history.

“The production of Ammonia and Methanol reached 467,539 and 445,880 metric tonnes, respectively, thus achieving the Company’s goals for 2016,” said GPIC Chairman Dr Ahmed Ali Al Sharyan. 

On safety,GPIC achieved a record 24.9 million working hours for its workforce and contractors without any lost time accident, which exceeds 5,360 days. 

“2016 was another extremely successful year for GPIC in terms of Safety, Security, Health and Environmental (SSHE) excellence,” the statement said adding that the company managed all its operation during the year on a sustained basis “without any reportable environmental incident”.

“GPIC maintained its process safety performance through operational excellence, robust risk management, training and lessons learned and hence we did not have any Tier 1 / Tier 2 process safety incidents in 2016,” the report said.
