Speed limits of 29 roads readjusted
Manama : The speed limits of several roads and highways in the Kingdom have been readjusted as per the instructions of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.
This was revealed during the weekly Cabinet meeting held at Gudaibiya Palace yesterday. The meeting was chaired by HRH Prime Minister.
During the session, Interior Minister Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa presented a memorandum on the adjustment of speed limits on 29 roads and highways in different parts of the Kingdom.
“The session approved adjusting the speed limits on 29 highways, in line with the HRH Premier’s directives to reconsider speed limits to meet safety requirements and reduce traffic contraventions,” Cabinet General Secretary Dr. Yasser Al Nasser announced in a statement issued following yesterday’s Cabinet session.
DT News reported last month that HRH Prime Minister gave directives to reconsider the speed limits applied on the main roads and highways, and modify them to ensure that they are commensurate with the traffic movement, and that they meet the requirements of safety to reduce traffic violations and at the same time to ensure the application of the law on violators.
HRH Prime Minister’s instructions followed public outcry over the increasing traffic fines lately, blaming it on “unsuitable” speed limits on roads and highways.
HRH Prime Minister’s directives received nationwide applause from citizens and residents.
