Security cameras help reduce crime in capital
Manama : Crime rates in the Capital Governorate have been reduced owing to deployment of surveillance cameras, a senior security official said yesterday.
In an interview published by the Police Media Centre yesterday, Capital Governorate Police Director Colonel Khalid Al Thawadi said that the number of robberies in the Capital dropped from 157 in 2015 to 145 last year.
“The directorate is keen on installing security surveillance cameras in vital and commercial areas, assisting policemen in solving robbery cases,” he said. “We registered 30,445 cases last year in various police stations in the governorate including Hoora, Nabih Saleh, Al Naeem, Exhibitions, Bab Al Bahrain, Sitra and the south of the capital police stations. Around 40 patrols work round-the-clock to ensure the safety of the governorate. This is increased to 62 patrols during public occasions,” Col. Al Thawadi said.
He noted that the Capital Governorate enjoys the privacy of a different nature, as it contains the most important facilities, vital streets, commercial complexes, diplomatic premises and political bodies in the Kingdom.
“That’s in addition to the high population density, making it a fertile environment for events and programmes and requires a system and security, being the main focus of all other aspects, especially the economy side,” he added.
