Suqoor Al Bahrain secure Q-final berth

ManamaSuqoor Al Bahrain qualified for the quarter finals of the Nasser 10 Football Tournament as leaders of Group 1 after a 1-1 draw with Jurnas at Khalifa Sports City Football Stadium in Is Town. 

Jurnas take the lead in the 27th minute through Fahad Shawkat, but Suqoor Al Bahrain’s Abdullah Saeed equalised by converting a penalty kick in the 48th minute.

The winning team captain Shaikh Saud bin Faisal Al Khalifa expressed great pleasure in seeing his team booking a quarter final spot as leaders of Group 1. “We played good in the preliminary round, but our mission isn’t over as we are looking forward to reaching the final,” Shaikh Saud said. 

Jumas team captain Ahmed Al Yaqoubi voiced out his regrets for not being able to qualify for the next stage of the tournament.  “It was a great experience for us and I personally learned a lot through playing good teams,” Ahmed Al Yaqoubi said. 

Meanwhile, HH Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, stressed that the growing development witnessed by HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa Sports Games Tournament “Nasser 10” confirms the great position that the event occupies in the local sports arena through the wise vision of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC).

The final matches of Group 2 today will see Batelco Gunners United against Al Frsan Hotel at 9pm, followed by the game between Nomas and Al Ahlam at 11:15pm. 

All the four teams have a chance to progress, but Batelco Gunners United are the closest to success as they have six points from two matches, while Nomas and Al Frsan have three points each. 

The Disabled Basketball Championship will be held today at the Bahrain Basketball Association Hall in Umm Al Hassam. 

Four teams are participating in the event - Al Ahli, Muhrraq, Al Hala and Al Etihad. 

Finally, Adnan Mudhafar was crowned as the winner of the Checkers Tournament which was held as part of Nasser 10, outclassing 12 other participants in the event.
